Aberdeen Wings News Release

Friday night, the Aberdeen Wings took on the Minnesota Magicians at the Odde Ice Center. It would be the first of a two-game home series for the Wings against Minnesota. In front of 1,503 very loud and proud fans, the Wings won 3-2 in overtime.

The road to victory would however be tough one for the Wings. In the first period, the Wings would go down 1-0 after a goal from Magicians captain Nick Kuchera. The period would end 1-0, despite the Wings outshooting the Magicians 19-5.

In the second period, Magicians forward Will Johnson would get the puck one-on-one against the Wings goaltender. He would be taken to the ice from behind by a Wings player earning him a penalty shot. Johnson would score to make it 2-0. The Wings would eventually get a goal off the stick of #15 Jordan Heller (F-Bemidji, MN) with assists from #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) and #22 Zach Doerring (F-Chanhassen, MN). The period would end 2-1, Wings down again outshooting the Magicians 10-5.

The third period would find the Wings looking for an extra energy boost. The over 1,500 Wings fans in attendance would deliver. At the 5:03 mark, Wings forward #27 Erik Baskin (F-Minnetonka, MN) would be awarded a penalty shot after a battle in front of the net. Baskin would score his 19th goal of the season. The third period would end tied 2-2.

In the overtime period, Wings defenseman #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) would beat the Magicians to the puck taking it in on the left side of the net. The puck would come loose from Horton's stick right to #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA) who would dish to #27 Erik Baskin for the goal and the win. The Wings ended the game outshooting the Minnesota Magicians 50-18. Wings goaltender #1 Chad Catt (G-Williamstown, MI) stopped 16 of the 18 shots faced. Another player that should receive recognition was Minnesota Magicians goaltender #1 Atte Tolvanen who stopped 48 of 51 shots. Despite the loss, he made some exceptional saves in the game.
