Bismarck Bobcats News Release

AUSTIN, MN--A penalty-ridden night saw the Bobcats come up empty on 10 power plays, while allowing three power-play goals in a 6-2 loss at Austin Friday night.

Bismarck (30-22-5) managed just 23 shots, while Austin (38-18-1) took 34 on their home ice and broke a four-game losing streak to the Bobcats.

With Aberdeen forcing overtime with the Minnesota Magicians, the loss cemented the Bobcats in the third-place position for the NAHL Central Division playoffs.

Nate Repensky (Duluth, MN) and Evan Giesler (Naperville, IL) scored goals for the Bobcats.

Despite being outshot 17-8 in the first period, the Bobcats were able to fend off the Bruins till late. But fending off a two-man disadvantage became too tall a task.

Ryan Callahan (Grafton, ND) took a tripping call at 12:44, and Chris Diver was nailed for roughing just 22 seconds later at 13:06. Jay Dickman took advantage, converting the power play at 13:24 for the first goal of the night.

Nate Repensky (Duluth, MN) tied the game with his 10th goal and 43rd point of the season at 3:40 of the second. Eli May sent the Bruins back on top at 11:45, and, following an Alex Strand (Roseau, MN) holding penalty, Easton Vittala registered a second power-play goal at 17:25, pushing the deficit to 3-1.

Evan Giesler (Naperville, IL) knocked in his 15th goal and 39th point of the season with a score at 2:08 of the third, cutting the lead to 3-2 with plenty of time to play.

Again the Bruins answered. Vittala tallied for the second time at 4:30, and a third goal on the man-advantage was sent in by Trey Dodd at 14:48, building a decisive 5-2 edge for Austin. Brian Backnak added an empty-net score for the final margin.

The Bobcats meet the Bruins again Saturday night in Austin. The game will be broadcast on Supertalk 1270, KLXX in Bismarck. It will be seen on FastHockey, and links to both can be found at www.bismarckbobcats.com.
