Weekend Recap

This past weekend the Wings continued to roll earning another 6 out of a possible 6 points in another 3 game weekend! This time rolls were reversed, as the Wings were at home to start the weekend vs. the Coulee Region Chill. Aberdeen didn't waste any time getting out to another quick start with Peter Krieger giving the Wings a 1-0 lead on a power play goal at the 3:22 mark of the 1st period. Assisting on the goal was Justin Parizek. Krieger would strike again at the 14:11 mark of the 1st period when once again Parizek was able to find him with an assists also going to Jordan Heller. Tanner Holmquist would supply the Wings with a 3-0 cushion when he scored on an unassisted breakaway goal at the 15:09 mark. The Wings wanted more and Zach Kraft provided with another goal with less then a minute remaining in the 1st with the assist going to Holmquist. Sam Coborn would add to the lead in the 2nd when he was able to net the only goal of the period with assists from Zach Doerring and Jake Horton. Kyle Haak scored short handed in the 3rd to give the room extra insurance with Heller once again getting the assist. Coulee would add one late in the game to ruin the shut out but Zach Nagelvoort had another outstanding performance in goal for the Wings stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced.

After Thursdays 6-1 win the Wings traveled up to Bismarck to take on the Bobcats. This time the Wings would have to battle from behind, as the Bobcats were able to get a shorthanded goal at the 1:54 mark of the 1st period. Battle back they would, as late in the 2nd period defenseman Jake Horton was able to get one past the Bobcats goaltender to tie things up at 1. Kyle Kruenegel assisted Horton on the goal. That's the way it would stay throughout regulation but just 52 seconds into overtime Krieger would play the hero roll scoring on an odd man rush with a perfect feed coming from Dylan Dailey. With the goal the Wings improved their winning streak to 5 straight. In net was Chad Catt who made an unbelievable 46 saves on 47 shots and with the help of the Wings defense kept them in the game throughout.

Saturday night was a similar story for the Wings having to once again battle back after going down early 2-0. Again it was Wings assistant captain Peter Krieger getting the offense started at the 11:10 mark of the 1st period with assists from Steven Johnson and Parizek. Bismarck would get the lone goal of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd. In that 3rd period the Wings would battle back once again with Peter Krieger sparking the offense with a goal just 21 seconds into the period. Heller and Horton would assist on the Krieger goal. Later in the period Horton would get the equalizer on a goal from the blue line from Jonathan Grebosky and Holmquist. The game would once again need extra time and then the shootout. In the shootout Aberdeen would get goals from Krieger, Parizek and the eventual game winner from former Bobcat Sam Coborn. Nagelvoort would make 33 saves on 36 shots along with stopping 3 of the 5 Bismarck shootout attempts. The Wings were able to sweep the Bobcats for the first time in franchise history in Bismarck. The good news kept coming for the Wings as Minot lost all 3 games on the weekend keeping the playoff hopes alive for the Wings! For his efforts Peter Krieger was named NAHL Central Division Star of the Week! Jake Horton named honorable mention!
