Wings Weekend Preview
April 1, 2016 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings (21-24-11) have a home and home series this weekend vs the Brookings Blizzard (22-28-6). Friday the Wings will be on the road traveling south to the Larson Ice Center. Then back to the Odde to face off for the regular season home finale Saturday. Over the past few weeks we have been preaching about how tight the Central division has been, and down the stretch it is becoming more magnified. With just 4 games remaining only 3 points separate last place (Brookings) from the final playoff spot (Currently held by the Minnesota Magicians). Putting some distance between the Wings and Brookings will be the goal this weekend. Aberdeen could ultimately eliminate Brookings from a possible playoff spot with a weekend sweep. The Magicians have their work cut out for them with their final 4 games coming against the current top seed Bismarck Bobcats, who hold the top spot by just 1 point over Minot.
Aberdeen is 6-1-3 in the 10 games played so far this year. Peter Thome has been strong between the pipes for the Wings with a 5-0-1 record vs the Blizzard a 1.25 GAA and .963 Save %. Tucker DeYoung and Kevin Fitzgerald have put the Wings on the board vs Brookings this year, DeYoung has 4 goals and 4 assists and Fitzgerald has 5 goals and 2 assists. Jake Leitner and Jackson Graalum also have 3 goals each vs Brookings. Look for a close game as 5 of the last 10 have gone to overtime. Aberdeen will look to start quick like they were last weekend vs Austin but this time maintain a lead and get the 4 points available.
Friday nights game can be heard on 94.1 the ROCK streamed at Hubcityradio.com of watched at fasthockey.com. Saturday will be the regular season home finale for the Wings! It's season ticket appreciation night! All season ticket holders are welcome to a hospitality board room up stairs in the Odde. Everything will be on a first come first serve basis, please bring your 2016-2017 season ticket renewal sheets! Skate with the Wings after the game!
