Dallas Wings News Release
Powered by 23 points from Arike Ogunbowale, the Dallas Wings (3-6) topped the Connecticut Sun 74-73 (9-3) Wednesday night at College Park Center. This is the first time since the 2014 season that a Wings rookie has posted back-to-back 20-point games. Allisha Gray pulled down a game-high seven rebounds marking the third time she has been the team's leading rebounder this season.
Wings Forward Kayla Thornton started the game off by sinking a three-pointer, one of seven that Dallas would connect on during the game, and Connecticut would quickly counter, going up by five. The two's seesaw battle would last the duration of the quarter with Dallas in control 18-16 at the end of the first 10 minutes. The Wings would remain in control, in front by as many as 13 late in the third quarter, until a 15-4 run by the Sun gave them a 66-65 advantage. Gray's driving layup on the next possession, coupled with an Ogunbowale finger roll, would give the Wings' its lead back with 2:54 left in regulation. The Sun would take the lead back, only to have it snatched out of its hands by an Ogunbowale three-pointer that banked in off the glass with 1:23 on the clock. Gray would sink a pair of free throws to make it 74-70 and would dribble out the clock after the Sun hit a three on its last possession, sealing the game 74-73.
Dallas heads to New York for a Friday night game in the Big Apple against the Liberty. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. CT and can be viewed on WNBA League Pass.
