Wings Take Game One Against McAllen

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (14-9) scored in the top of the seventh inning to take the first game of the doubleheader against the McAllen Thunder (11-12) by a 8-7 score. Wesley Dimitt scored the game winning run on a passed ball.

The Wings' got on the board in the first inning as Francisco Santana was scored by a David Peralta hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Santana was advance to third by an Antonio DeJesus single.

The Thunder scored a pair of runs in the second inning as Carlo Gallardoand Zach Mandelblatt both crossed home plate thanks to an Eric Eiland single.

In the third inning the Wings brought three runs across to retake the lead. Leivi Ventura started the rally with a single which was promptly followed by David Peralta and Edgar Trejo all reaching. Leo Delgado scored two runs after an error by Yaibel Tamayo.

The offense continued to swing the bats well in the fourth inning as David Peralta drilled a two-run double to right field scoring Brandon Decker and Leivi Ventura. For Peralta it was a third RBI of the game.

The Thunder wouldn't let the Wings lead hold as they score a trio of runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Wings lead back to one. Andy Wells(2-1) did not earn a decision in the game pitching 3.2 innings while striking out three and allow five earned runs.

Mickey Cassidy ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning and after the bases became loaded Edgar Martinez entered the game for the Wings with only one out and a one run lead. Martinez forced Yaibel Tamayoto fly out but the long fly ball would score Derek Marshall from third.

Wesley Dimitt scored in the top of the seventh inning on a very bizarre set of circumstances. Dimitt first reached on a fielder's choice error then was advanced to second when Edgar Trejo was caught in a rundown between second and third. Dimitt moved to third on a Leo Delgado ground out and scored on the passed ball.

Edgar Martinez (1-0) would become the pitcher of record earning his first win of the season.

Game two of the double-header follows 30 minutes after game one.
