Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Offence has dominated the first two games of this week's series between the Edmonton Capitals and Chico Outlaws, as the Caps crushed Chico 20-8 to open the three-game set on Wednesday, but the Outlaws earned their revenge on Thursday with a dominant 17-8 victory.

The Caps got off to a great start on Thursday and built a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but then the skies opened up on TELUS Field and forced a 90-minute rain delay, which seemed to wake up the Outlaws offence. Chico exploded for three runs in the sixth inning and six runs in both the seventh and eighth en route to the lopsided victory, which dropped Edmonton's record to 10-8.

The Outlaws spread their offence around evenly, as six players drove in two or more runs. Left fielder Todd Linden had the best night at the plate for the Caps, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored. Starting pitcher Daryl Arreola knocked in two runs with an early single, while second baseman Alex Chavez also had a solid night with three hits and three runs scored.

Edmonton's pitchers had a tough time with the hot Chico bats following the rain delay, as Arreola gave up five runs on five hits through 5.1 innings, giving way to Tom Boleska, David Davidson, Chad Blackwell and Rory Shortell. Davidson took the loss for the home side, surrendering five earned runs in just 0.2 innings. Reliever Ryan Riddle got the win for the Outlaws.

The Capitals and Outlaws are scheduled to wrap up their three-game series on Friday night with a 7 p.m. start at TELUS Field. The series finale is the second Fireworks Friday of the season presented by 92.5 JOE FM, featuring an outstanding post-game fireworks display.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
