
Wings Split with Brookings

The Wings closed out their exhibition schedule with a home and home series this past Friday and Saturday with Brookings. Friday found the Wings on the road and down 2-0 early. After the first intermission talk from the Wings coaching staff the came out in the 2nd and buried 3 unanswered goals from Hammer, Dukus & Stewart to take the lead. They would hold off the Blizzard to get the road win 3-2.
Saturday the Wings returned home to the Odde. After a morning 5k that benefited the Northeast South Dakota Chapter of Out of the Darkness the Wings kept the momentum going from the night before. Durgan found the net first on a break away. Brookings was able to respond but a chip in goal from Hammer allowed the Wings to head into the locker room with the lead 2-1. Brookings would tie the game early in the 2nd, but the Wings answered right back with Gavin Payne finding the back of the net on a pass from Carter Roo. Brookings once again responded with a wrister from the point to tie things up at 3. Moments later they would take the lead 4-3. The Wings would continue the back and forth with #7 Bossert making it a 4-4 game. The scoring wasn't done in the 2nd yet though as Brookings added a power play goal to take a 5-4 lead into the intermission. Early in the 3rd the Wings with a goal from Jungels. 60 minutes wouldn't be enough though as the teams went to a 3 on 3 overtime period. After the 5 minute session the teams were still tied. In the shootout Brookings scored 1st and that proved to be enough as they split the exhibition series. The Wings will be traveling to Fargo Monday for a pre-season controlled scrimmage before taking a weekend off before the season officially starts Wednesday September 23rd.Â
