Coomes' Big Game Bests Kenai River in 6-2 Fairbanks Win

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs' Logan Coomes had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Coomes got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 13:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. A holding call on Clay Cross put Fairbanks on the penalty kill. Todd Burgess assisted on the tally. Coomes dished an assist on Burgess' goal that made the score 4-0 Fairbanks at 3:00 into the second period. He added another helper on Ryner Gorowsky's goal that made the score 6-0 Fairbanks at 8:52 into the second period.

The Ice Dogs forced Brown Bears' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Nicholas Nast made 12 stops and Brian Baker made 18. Fairbanks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 29 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fairbanks also got points from Gorowsky, who also had one goal and one assist, Tyler Tomberlin, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Burgess, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fairbanks included Evan Somoza and Reggie Lutz, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Jakob Stridsberg, who had one and Ryan Kero, who had two.

Kenai River stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Brown Bears could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Kenai River's defensemen bolstered the Brown Bears' offensive attack, as they bombarded Andrew Lindgren with 11 shots.

Kenai River also had goals scored by Jack Gessert and Adam Kresl, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Jason Lem, Thomas Keane, Evan Butcher, and Jeff Solow, who each chipped in one.

Lindgren rejected 21 shots on goal for Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Fairbanks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stridsberg was ejected from the game. Kenai River registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
