Aberdeen Wings News Release

To say Saturday night's game was a battle is merely an understatement. The Aberdeen Wings took on the Bismarck Bobcats in front of 1,537 loyal Wings fans, came up short 4-2.

The first period was pure hard-nosed action with both teams grinding for the puck and position. #8 Drew Doyon (F-Indianapolis, IN) would score for the Wings on the power play at the 17:19 mark. Assists came from #2 Ryan Cook (D-Buffalo, NY) and #24 Jonathan Grebosky (F-Pittsburgh, PA). The power play goal would quickly be answered by Bismarck with a goal from Sekesi.

In the second, at the 6:01 mark the Aberdeen Wings would again take the lead 2-1 on another power play goal, this time from #9 Patrick Steinhauser (F-Plymouth, MN) with the assist coming from #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN). Late in the 2nd period, Bismarck would tie things up at 2-2.

In the third period, the Bismarck Bobcats would take their first lead of the night with a goal at the 8:31 mark. The Bobcats would add to their lead with a short-handed goal at the 15:17 mark.

During the first intermission, the Wings organization honored former player Brenden Gust, who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Owner Greg Odde gave a great introduction on ice to Brenden Gust who was wearing a special #26 jersey. The jersey was auctioned off bringing $3,000 which the Aberdeen Wings organization matched. Donation buckets were also played around, so the overall total funds raised for the #GoForGusto Benefit and family was well over $6,000. Thank you Wings fans for your generous contributions and support of former Wings player Brenden Gust and his battle with Leukemia.
