Wings Fall in Showcase Finale 3-2
September 22, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Wings closed out the 2018 NAHL Showcase with a 3-2 loss against the Corpus Christi Icerays Saturday morning, leaving Blaine with a 2-2-0 record. The Wings would take advantage of an Icerays turnover and a beauty of a move by Thomas Rocco on a feed from Sicoly & Strada giving the Wings a 1-0 lead early in the 1st. The lead wouldn't last long as Corpus was able to tie the game up just seconds later making it a 1 all tie heading into the 1st intermission. The 2nd period was all Icerays getting 2 unanswered goals and taking a 3-1 lead into the final 20 minutes. Rocco would get the Wings to within 1 early in the 3rd with a slot snipe over the goaltenders shoulder. Assisting on the goal were once again Strada & Sicoly. That would be as close as the Wings would get however, as they had opportunities but no puck luck to tie the game. Vernon was solid in net again for the Wings stopping 42 of 45 shots.
The Wings will be on the road next Friday & Saturday when they take on the Minnesota Wilderness. 7:05 puck drop Friday and a 7:35 puck drop Saturday night. You can watch the game at Buffalo Wings & Rings in Aberdeen or by logging on to Hockey TV.com. As always you can tune into 94.1 The Rock, HubCityRadio.com or The Rock App!
