Maryland Black Bears News Release
The Maryland Black Bears rounded out their four-game Minnesota road trip with five out of eight possible points after falling to the Austin Bruins 4-3 in overtime Saturday evening.
The Black Bears opened the scoring with a goal by Swedish defender, Lukas Ljungblom, just eight minutes into the first period and led 1-0 at first intermission. Two quick strikes by Austin in the second period put the Black Bears down 2-1 but Michigan native, Jake Rudin, evened the score 2-2 late in the period. Both teams found the back of the net once in the third period and 3-on-3 overtime was needed for a second night in a row. Maryland successfully killed a two minute slashing penalty in overtime but the Austin Bruins were able to capitalize on a rebound tap-in with just 10 seconds remaining in the sudden death period.
The Black Bears earned a point for the regulation tie and moved to 2-2-2 overall, good for third in the NAHL Eastern Division. The Black Bears head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton next weekend for a pair of games vs. the Knights in an Eastern Division matchup.
