February 25, 2023 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Wings started a six-game home stand tonight against the North Iowa Bulls. The Wings played hard all game long, almost doubling the Bulls' shots on goal with the Wings having 41 and the Bulls having only 23. The game went into overtime where the Bulls turned down the big comeback brewing for the Wings. Being down 3-1 with less than two minutes to go the Wings decided to pull the goaltender Cole Moore to put out the extra attacker. Logan Gravink came in the clutch and score two goals no more than a minute apart to make it 3-3
In the first period the Wings outshot North Iowa 17-7 with Michael Casey opening tonight's scoring on the powerplay making it Caseys' 10th goal on the year. The Wings seemed to start the game off hot once again. But with 9 seconds remaining in the opening period North Iowa responded with a goal coming from Jack Seaverson making it a 1-1 game at intermission.
The second period the Wings still dominated the shots on goal category with 12, but unfortunately, they couldn't put one in the back of the net with one getting called back for a high stick infraction. The Bulls on the other hand capitalized on one of their 6 shots on goal in the period with that goal coming from Simone Dadie. Making it a 2-1 game going into the final period.
In the third the Wings were able to kill off the Logan Gravink penalty coming late in the second that went into the third. After the killed penalty North Iowas' Byron Hartley was able to put one past Cole Moore to make it a 3-1 game. The game looked to be over, but Logan Gravink thought otherwise when he put one past the Bulls' goaltender Mitch Day to make it a 3-2 game with 1:11 left in the third. That goal sparked the team as less than a minute later with :19 seconds left on the clock Logan Gravink once again put his second in the net. The game went into overtime but halfway through the extra 5 minutes North Iowa was able to capitalize on a 2 on 1 attack with Logan Dombrowsky putting one in the net for the 4-3 overtime win. Though the Wings grabbed a point and were able to stay in second place.
Cole Moore was able to stop 19/23 shots on goal he made some huge saves when the team needed it. The Wings will be back at the Odde tomorrow afternoon with a 3 pm puck drop to close out the weekend and look for the split against North Iowa. Sunday's game we welcome My Place Hotels as the corporate sponsor.
