Wings Alumni Shine over the Weekend

The Aberdeen Wings have an outstanding list of NCAA Division I college players as alumni. Some players shined over the weekend.

Former Wings captain Cory Ward scored a goal for the Bemidji State University Beavers on Friday night in a 5-2 loss to the #1 University of Minnesota. On Saturday, the Bemidji State/Minnesota game was televised on Fox Sports-North which saw three Wings alumni on the ice including Bemidji State forwards Cory Ward, Jordan Heller, and Minnesota Golden Golphers defenseman Steven Johnson. That game was 5-3 win for #1 Minnesota.

Last season's Wings captain Jake Horton added an assist to a goal during a 3-2 win Friday night for the UMass Minutemen over Northeastern. Former Wings goaltender Henry Dill got the win stopping 42 of 44 shots on goal. On Saturday, the Minutemen lost 4-1 to #6 Boston College. Dill was the goaltender for UMass stopping 27 of 30 shots.

Former Wings goaltender and 2014 NHL Draft pick Zach Nagelvoort suffered a loss over the weekend as #11 Boston University beat #14 Michigan Wolverines 3-2. Nagelvoort stopped 31 of 34 shots.

Peter Krieger, a forward for the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks added an assist to the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Western Michigan this weekend. Krieger now has 2 goals and 2 assists in 6 games for Division-I Alaska-Fairbanks.

Former Wings player Taylor Richart added an assist in a 2-1 overtime victory for the University of Miami (OH) over St. Lawrence University. That game also featured Wings alumni Joe Sullivan on the ice for St. Lawrence.
