Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Wichita Wingnuts pitchers continued to foil the bats of the Amarillo Sox as Wichita swept the three-game series with a 6-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Sox starter Justin Garcia (1-1) got the loss, allowing all six Wichita runs off nine hits in six innings. Wingnuts starter Ben Graham (2-2) got the win, allowing just one earned run in six innings.
The Wingnuts took an early lead as Ryan Khoury walked, went to second on a single, took third on a double play and scored on Juan Richardson RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
Amarillo responded in the second as Tim Alberts led off with a single. Following an error by the shortstop to allow Alberto Espinosa to reach, Van Pope singled to score Alberts, while Espinosa crossed the plate on a Chuck Lofgren RBI groundout for a 2-1 lead.
Wichita retook the lead in the third inning as Jake Kahaulelio doubled with two outs and scored on a John Rodriguez RBI single. Richardson followed with a two-run homerun to give the Wingnuts a two-run lead. They added more in the sixth as CJ Ziegler doubled and scored on a David Peralta triple. Peralta would score on a Steve Carrillo sacrifice fly for a 6-2 lead.
The Sox could not get any additional runs and fell to the Wingnuts by a 6-2 score.
