American Association Game Recaps

June 20, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release

Kansas City 15, El Paso 11

The T-Bones and Diablos wasted no time in driving up the score this morning, but it was Kansas City that ultimately prevailed, 15-11. Kansas City started the power show with three runs in the first on two home runs. Not to be outdone, El Paso grabbed the lead in the second with a seven-run outburst that included a home run by 2B Uriak Marquez. The lead did not last long, though. Kansas City struck back with eight runs in the bottom half of the frame, helped by DH Ray Sadler's second homer of the game. The T-Bones' onslaught made it 11-7 after two innings of play and the Kansas City held on from there.

Sadler led all hitters with his two homers and added a double to finish 3-for-5. The DH also led both clubs in RBI with five on the day. On the mound, RHP Nick Singleton survived the rocky start to get his fourth win. His only misstep was the seven-run second, but he settled down and did not allow any more runs through six total innings.

Wichita 6, Amarillo 2

Juan M. Richardson's 4-for-4 day led the Wingnuts past Amarillo, 6-2. In the third inning, Richardson unknotted the score with a 2-run home run. The homer, Richardson's second and third RBI's, was enough for Wichita's pitchers. RHP Ben Graham did not allow a run from that point and three relievers combined to secure the win. Richardson, who played both corner infield positions in the game, was one of two Wingnuts to post multi-hit games. The other was 2B Jake Kahaulelio, who finished 3-for-4.

Winnipeg 4, Sioux Falls 1

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, the Sioux Falls Pheasants brought the tying run to the plate. The hitter was DH Trevor Lawhorn and the Goldeyes countered by bringing RHP Dexter Carter in from the bullpen. Manager Rick Forney's move proved to be the right one, as Carter promptly induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. In doing so, Carter preserved a win for Matt Rusch, who improved to 4-1. Rusch pitched eight strong innings, allowing one run on eight hits.

As dire as the situation was for Winnipeg in the ninth, it could have been a lot scarier were it not for CF Chris Roberson's solo home run in the top half of the inning. C Luis Alen also homered for the Goldeyes in the win, and 3B Yurendell de Caster led all hitters with a 3-for-5 afternoon.
