Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WINGNUTS END SLIDE
The Wichita Wingnuts trailed 5-2 after three innings, but battled back to claim an 8-5 series avoiding sweep over the Joplin Blasters Thursday night at Joe Becker Stadium. The comeback began in the fourth, as Christian Stringer and Zack Cox put together back-to-back two-out run-scoring singles to bring the Wingnuts within a run. Still trailing 5-4 in the seventh, Wichita regained the lead. T.J. Mittelstaedt launched a three-run homer, his first of the season, putting the Wingnuts in front by two. The left fielder then added an insurance run for the visitors in the ninth, doubling in Dustin Geiger to give Wichita a three-run advantage. The lead proved to be enough for a Wingnuts staff that settled in after giving up five runs over the first three innings. Starter Tim Brown did not allow a run over his final four innings of work, and was removed after seven frames. Behind Brown, Seth Harvey and Frankie Reed worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings respectively, each picking up a pair of strikeouts to help the Wingnuts finish off their first road win of the campaign and avoid a series sweep.
MITTELSTAEDT'S BIG NIGHT
Left fielder T.J. Mittelstaedt had a huge night for Wichita Thursday, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. His go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning was his first of the season, after leading the Wingnuts in that category a year ago. The California native added a pair of doubles to his long ball, one of which gave him his fourth RBI of the night. Mittelstaedt's four RBIs are the most by a Wingnut in a game this year, and give him five so far, one shy of Richard Prigatano's team-leading total of six RBIs.
ON UP TO FARGO WE GO
After dropping two of three to the division rival Joplin Blasters, Wichita continues their six-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tonight, in what is the home opener at Newman Outdoor Field. This will be the first of two trips to North Dakota for the Wingnuts in 2016, as they return for another three-game series in August. Last season, the Wingnuts won two out of three at Newman Outdoor Field in the only series played between the two clubs.
