PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today announced that winger Dairon Asprilla has returned to the club from his loan with Colombian first-division club Millonarios F.C.
"Dairon has the skill set to be successful in MLS, and we welcome him back to the club and look forward to helping in his continued development in this league," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers.
The Istmina, Colombia, native originally joined Millonarios F.C. on loan in June 2016 after appearing in nine games (6 starts) with the Timbers during the 2016 MLS campaign. While on loan with Millonarios, Asprilla registered two goals in 16 games played (9 starts).
"We know what Dairon can bring on the pitch and he is hungry to come back and invest fully in the team," said Caleb Porter, head coach of the Timbers. "We're happy to give him that opportunity again and feel his soccer qualities will benefit even more to our squad moving forward."
Asprilla, 24, originally joined the Timbers ahead of the 2015 MLS campaign after spending three seasons with Colombian first division club Alianza Petrolera. In two campaigns with Portland, Asprilla has made 35 regular-season appearances (16 starts), recording two goals and two assists in 1,496 minutes played. During the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2015, Asprilla appeared in six games (3 starts), tallying a goal and three assists.
