PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets scored four runs with two outs in the ninth inning to notch a dramatic 6-2 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Monday at Charlotte Sports Park.

With the game tied 2-2 with two outs in the last inning, Mets outfielder Matt Winaker ripped a full count pitch from Chandler Raiden down the right field line for a two-run triple.

Mitch Ghelfi and Nick Meyer followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to break the game open.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak in which the Mets lost two games when leading in the ninth inning. On Monday it looked dire again, as the Stone Crabs tied the game with two outs in the eighth on a RBI triple.

But the Mets sparked to life quickly in the ninth. Jacob Zanon hit the first pitch for a single and Carlos Cortes drew a walk. After a line out and a ground out did not bring home a run, Winaker stepped to the plate and delivered his biggest hit of the year. He went 1 for 3 with three RBI on the night.

Thomas McIlraith pitched a scoreless seventh and did strand the two-out triple in the eighth to keep the game tied. He got the win. Yeizo Campos tossed a scoreless ninth in what turned out to be a non-save situation.

Mets starter Kevin Smith was electric. He matched his season high with nine strikeouts. Smith allowed just one run on three hits over six innings in a no-decision.

Jeremy Vasquez went 1 for 4 with a single to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Ghelfi and Zanon also extended their hitting streaks to five games each. Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 4.

The Mets (9-5, 41-39) and Stone Crabs (9-4, 44-35) play the second game of their series at Charlotte Sports Park on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
