Florida Fire Frogs News Release
CLEARWATER, FLA.: Rehabbing Toronto Blue Jays hurler LHP Ryan Borucki and the rest of the Dunedin Blue Jays staff kept the Florida Fire Frogs guessing, holding the Frogs to just two hits in a 5-0 shutout win on Monday night at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium.
Borucki shined for Dunedin in just his second start of the season, tossing four one-hit, shutout innings and fanning four Fire Frogs. His start to the season is tardy due to left elbow soreness that made him inactive for nearly three months.
Braves outfielder Ender Inciarte saw his first game action since May 14, making a rehab start as the DH and batting second in the order. He grounded out to second in his initial at-bat in the first. He rolled into a double play in his second and final plate appearance in the fourth. Drew Lugbauer pinch-hit for him in the sixth.
Alejandro Kirk got the Dunedin offense going right away in the first against LHP Hayden Deal. Cal Stevenson singled ahead of Kirk, moved to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a grounder from Kevin Vicuna. Kirk drove him in with a knock for a 1-0 Blue Jays advantage.
Kirk would also bring Stevenson in on a single in the third to double Dunedin's lead to 2-0.
Samad Taylor lit up the sky twice on Monday, going deep for the second time this season with a two-run shot in the fourth. He also tanked one over the left field fence in the sixth to produce a five-run edge for the Blue Jays.
Stevenson, Kirk, and Taylor each went 2-4, accounting for six of the 10 Dunedin hits in the affair. Eight of the nine Blue Jays hitters reached base at least once.
Deal (3-7) was a pitch away from grinding through six innings before allowing the second home run to Taylor. He dropped his fourth straight decision, giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts mixed in over 5 and 2/3's.
RHP Walter Borkovich maneuvered around two hits and racked up two Ks over 2 and 1/3's scoreless frames out of the Fire Frogs pen.
RHP Emerson Jimenez (3-1) sniped the win from Borucki, surrendering a single and nothing else in the fifth. RHP Joey Murray walked three but struck out five while securing a four-inning save.
NEXT UP: Florida looks to RHP Matt Hartman (0-2, 4.39) to turn in another quality start opposite of the Blue Jays' RHP Graham Spraker (5-2, 1.95) in the middle game of the set. Tuesday's first pitch will be fired off at 6:30 p.m.
