Rockford IceHogs News Release
Kalamazoo, Mich.- On the final meeting during the 2005-06 regular season between the teams, the Rockford IceHogs topped the Kalamazoo Wings 3-1 at Wings Stadium behind brilliant goaltending by Michel Robinson and a balanced offense that gave Rockford a 3-0 advantage heading into the final period.
Robinson made 31 saves in the contest to extend Rockford's winning streak to five-straight games. The only blemish on Robinson's resume Friday was a power-play maker from Kalamazoo winger Nick Bootland with just 1:38 left in regulation.
Rockford grabbed the 1-0 lead in the first frame when rookies Dan Boeser, Yannick Tifu and Robin Big Snake hooked up at 13:55. Boeser's clear out pass found Tifu on a 2-on-1 with Big Snake who deflected in his 18th goal the season past Wings goalie Jeff Reynaert on a perfect feed from Tifu.
In the second frame, the Hogs added a pair of insurance goals. Rookie center Steve Yetman fired in his 10th goal of the campaign through traffic at 4:57 giving Rockford the 2-0 advantage. Later in the second, Italian Olympic Team defenseman Bob Nardella fired in his third goal of the season at 14:38 on the power-play to finish off the Rockford scoring.
The Hogs were out-shot 32-26, but Robinson was sharp, picking up win 13 on the season. Rockford's five-game winning streak is the second longest of the year only to the club-record nine-game streak that began the season.
Next Home Game: Friday, February 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards collide at the MetroCentre once again. The world famous "Zooperstars" will entertain the crowd at the game.
Saturday, February 11 vs. Missouri River Otters. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Rockford and Missouri hook up in Rockford for one final time in '05-06. For tickets to either game, call (815) 968-5222.
