Edinburg, Texas---It was a day that had just about everything on Tuesday night. Ronnie Gaines would set a career high and be the third Colts player this year to hit three homeruns in a game. Daryl Jones would also become the new single season Colts homerun king. San Angelo would also win big in game one of the double-header 15-3, only to lose on a walk-off again for the third time in the series, 4-3 in extra innings.
In game one Ronnie Gaines three homeruns propelled the Colts to victory hitting two of them in a nine run third to go up 11-0 on their way to a 15-3 win. Cory Patton also had four hits including a homerun as every batter had a least one hit smacking a season high 23 in all. Adam Kramer also went the distance going seven innings, allowing three runs, on six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out six.
Game two would be a different story, as Chandler Barnard and David Cross dueled for five innings with the score 1-1. The one run scored by San Angelo was on a Daryl Jones homerun his 26th, becoming the Colts single season homerun king. In the sixth the two teams scored a pair of runs as Vic Ferrante homered for San Angelo, but the Wings also scored two and the game was tied at 3-3. With games being seven innings in double-headers the game technically went in extra innings. Rio would win in overtime for the second night in a row, winning in walk-off fashion for the third time in the series, by a final of 4-3 scoring in the bottom of the ninth.
The Colts move on to the third and final leg of their 12 day road trip, as they begin a five game series with the McAllen Thunder. Game one will feature San Angelo right-hander Brian Henschel (6-5, 4.64) against a pitcher yet to be determined for McAllen. It all begins with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m., with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on 101.9 "The Fire".
