Early Innings Doom Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas---The McAllen Thunder allowed six runs in the first four innings to the San Angelo Colts in a 9-6 loss Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in their first home game since June 18th.

The Colts (40-24) grabbed the lead early against the Thunder by scoring a run in the first, two in the second, two more in the third, and one in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.

McAllen (27-38) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Nichols led off with a double and then moved to third on a single by Wilson Batista. After a walk to Zach Mandelblatt loaded the bases, Luke Hetherington hit an RBI single scoring Nichols from third. Another run came in on a double play that allowed Batista to score cutting the Colts lead 6-2.

Back-to-back singles by Eric Eiland and Antoin Gray put runners on the corners for Mike Goss who followed with a three-run home run to the left field bullpen making it 6-5 Colts.

Landon Camp extended the San Angelo lead in the top of the eighth with a two-run single that allowed Vic Ferrante and Danny Hernandez to score. On the same play a fielding error at first base allowed Mark Ramos to score pushing their lead to 9-5.

Brian Henschel (7-5) pitched seven innings and allowed five runs on 13 hits and five strikeouts.

In the bottom of the eighth, Eiland hit a lead-off solo home run cutting it to 9-6.

Sean Kramer pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the season giving San Angelo the 9-6 victory.

The Thunder and Colts will play a double-header Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game one is scheduled to start at 6:05 with game two starting 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
