FIRST THINGS FIRST: Tonight, the Wilson Tobs head to the road for the first time this season as they travel 157 miles northwest to Martinsville, VA to matchup with the Mustangs for a second consecutive night. The Tobs held on for a 10-7 victory on Thursday night at Fleming Stadium for their first Coastal Plain League play win of the year.
GRANT YOU A WISH: Left hander Grant Fremion will take the ball tonight for the Tobs. Fremion, a red-shirt freshman from St. Louis University, joined up with Wilson on Thursday night. Out of Carmel, IN, Fremion will make his Tobs debut tonight at Hooker Field. The south paw graduated from St. Theodore Guerin High School in 2017 after posting a career 2.60 ERA on the hill.
AUST-IN THE GAME: The Mustangs entrust Austin Elliot tonight, a rising sophomore out of the University of North Carolina. Elliott, a 2018 Delaware State Champion in high school, is currently redshirting during his freshman campaign at UNC. The Milton, DE native was a two-time All-State outfielder and pitcher and a four-time All- Conference outfielder and pitcher at Cape Henlopen High School.
CRAZY NUMBERS: Through the first three games of the season, the Tobs have scored 41 times, tallying 35 hits and batting .334 as a team. They are a perfect nine for nine in stolen bases and have walked at a higher rate than they have struckout (23-18). The offense has also homered in each of their first three contests, all from different batters. The Wilson pitching staff has racked up double-digit strikeouts in each game this year, setting down a total of 36 hitters, walking just 11. Thursday night, the Tobs pitching staff issued just one walk.
DEVINE FEELS FINE: Drew DeVine has been red hot to begin the season. After a quiet 0-3 contest on opening night against the Twins, DeVine has exploded, going six for his last ten, including a triple and a double, driving in eight runs in the process. The native of Marshall, MI tallied a four hit performance on Tuesday followed by two-hits Thursday night. DeVine was a .359 hitter in 48 games during this past junior year at Western Michigan. He posted two double-digit game hitting streaks, including a 13-game hitting streak this past season.
