FIRST THINGS FIRST: Tonight, the Wilson Tobs begin Coastal Plain League play as they host the Martinsville Mustangs. The Tobs went 4-5 against the Mustangs during the 2018 season, dropping their final two games to them by being outscored 23-3. This is the first of back-to-back matchups with ten total games scheduled between the two in 2019.
I CAN ONLY IMIG-INE: Right hander Nate Imig takes the ball for the CPL opener tonight for the Tobs. A four-pitch pitcher, Imig will make his Wilson debut tonight. At the University of Texas at Tyler, he made ten appearances, including six straight outings of seven innings to finish his college career, closing with a 6-2 record. Imig was an engineering major at UT at Tyler. He received Tommy John surgery in 2017.
TOM BUTLER & THE MUSTANGERS: Righty Tom Butler takes the ball for the Martinsville Mustangs tonight. Butler wrapped up his junior year at Occidental College (Los Angeles, CA) making 12 appearances and one start to the tune of a 4.44 ERA. Butler is a native of Seattle, WA and was a two-sport athlete (baseball and basketball) and 2016 graduate at University Prep Academy.
RAINS IT POURS: In their first two exhibition games of the year, Wilson scored 31 runs on 25 hits, batting .338 as a team with the pitching staff allowing just two runs (one earned) for a 0.50 ERA. To Tobs trailed just once this year for just one and a half innings on Sunday against the Fuquay-Varina Twins 1-0 but tied the game in the bottom of the second and never trailed again. On Tuesday against the North Wake Fungo, the Tobs went 16-41 at the plate, scored 21 times and walked 16 times while allowing just three hits. They have outscored their opponents 31-2 to begin the season.
RUN, RUN SLUGGER: The Tobs are a perfect nine for nine on the basepaths to start the season. Jared Carr and Marquiese Lanier lead the team with three, Drew Devine has two and Corrigan Bartlett has one stolen base. In 2018 under Bryan Hill, Wilson stole 66 bases in 88 attempts (75% success rate) over 45 games.
