Wilson Tobs News Release
(Wilson, N.C.) - The Wilson Tobs began Coastal Plain League play against the Martinsville Mustangs on Thursday night. For the third straight game, Wilson drove in double digit runs for a 10-7 victory.
Nate Imig made his Tobs debut on the hill and was solid. Wilson's defense committed three errors to begin the game, allowing Colin Allman to score, giving Martinsville an early 1-0 advantage. Imig, a right-hander from the University of Texas at Tyler, gave the Tobs a quality start, allowing four runs, three earned over 5.1 innings pitched.
Wilson's offense came alive again. After scoring 21 runs on Tuesday night, second most in the last 20 seasons, the Tobs sent eight to the plate in the first scoring three times, led by a Nick Rose RBI single, a Drew DeVine sacrifice fly and an error. Wilson took a 4-2 lead after Rose doubled home Kevin Jordan in the second.
The Tobs continued to pour it on in the fifth after Mustangs' starter Tom Butler was handed an exit after four innings, allowing four runs. Jared Carr homered to lead off the fifth with Colby Warren singling in a pair of runs in the frame. The Tobs led 7-2.
Martinsville fought back in the sixth with a three-run home run from Tyler Rieback but WIilson replied in the eighth. DeVine doubled in two more and Meyers brought home DeVine with a single to give Wilson a 10-5 lead.
Two runs scored against CJ Gonzalez in the ninth but the Tobs locked down their third straight win with a 10-7 final. Imig (1-0) earned his first win of the year as Butler (0-1) was handed the loss. The Tobs will head on the road Friday night to play the Mustangs again at Hooker Field in Virginia. All the action can be heard online at mixlr.com/WilsonTobs.
