San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - Logan Williamson kept the Colts' bullpen rested again, throwing a complete-game six-hitter, as the San Angelo Colts swept the Harlingen WhiteWings with a 12-1 win in front of 1,891 at Foster Field Sunday evening.
On their fifth try of the year, the Colts (23-16) finally have a four-game winning streak, as they decimated the 'Wings (14-25) to the tune of 26-4 over the three games, with Williamson (5-2) joining Frank James and Brian Henschel with complete games over the weekend.
The lefty Williamson took the team lead in wins with his dominating performance, not allowing two base runners in an inning until the eighth and keeping a shutout until there was one out in the ninth, while striking out eight.
San Angelo manufactured a run in the first inning to take the early lead off Kenny Evoniuk (0-4). With one out, Tyrone Pendergrass walked, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error by catcher Kevin Griffin. Then, with two outs, Andres Rodriguez singled to left to bring Pendergrass home. Rodriguez then helped to break the game open, with a three-run double with two outs in the second to make the score 5-0.
The Colts took advantage of more walks, as Harlingen pitchers walked eight hitters, five of whom came in to score, after being issued eight Saturday night. Third baseman Aaron Cone finished the scoring with an exclamation point, hitting a two-run homer to left, his fifth of the year, off former Colt Brandon Kling.
Notes: Five of the six Harlingen hits were singles after having nine singles last night. The 'Wings had just two extra base hits, a double in the ninth today and a double in the first on Friday night, in the series...The 6-9 hitters in the Colts lineup, Cone, Jose Torres, Wyn Diggs, and Charley Belew, were a combined 9-for-16 with nine runs scored and five RBIs...Torres kept his on-base streak alive at 33.
The Colts head out for a brief road trip, a three-game showdown with third-place Alexandria, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. San Angelo returns home for a six-game homestand, which begins on Thursday against first-place Amarillo. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Miller Lite and Foster Communications.
