Broncos Take Series Finale Against Amarillo

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos split the short 4 game series with the Amarillo Dillas at Veterans Field, taking the finale by a score of 6-4 on Sunday night. The Broncos now hit the road for a 6 game trip starting in Edinburg on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos struck first in the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. Steven Wright led off the inning with a double. The next batter Anthony Bennett would walk. Then Dwayne White hit a pop fly into shallow left field. The shortstop Danny Bravo had the ball in his glove when the left fielder Keith Brachold collided with him, making him drop the ball and allowing everyone to be safe. Edgard Clemente would then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Wright from 3rd. Luany Sanchez would then walk to load the bases for the 2nd time in the inning. But Dillas starter Josh Smith got Santiago Guerrero and Ben Tinius to strike out and end the threat. The Broncos however took a 1-0 lead.

The Dillas would get on the board in the top of the 3rd inning. Justin Wenger led off with a single, and went to 2nd on a single by Josh Ashton. With one out, Keith Brachold grounded out, but on the play both runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd. Then Gary Schneidmiller would double scoring both Wenger and Ashton, as Amarillo took the 2-1 lead.

The Broncos would retake the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Anthony Bennett led off with a single. Then Dwayne White followed with a single of his own, moving Bennett to 2nd. Edgard Clemente would then hit a single scoring Bennett from 2nd and advancing White to 3rd. Luany Sanchez would follow with a single of his own scoring White from 2nd and giving Laredo a 3-2 lead.

Laredo would tack on some more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Eric Padilla and Steven Wright both reached base on a walk. Dillas starter Josh Smih was then taken out of the game for reliever Ron Lowe. Anthony Bennett would hit a sacrifice bunt moving up the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Dwayne White would then single scoring both Padilla and Wright. White would go to 2nd on a throwing error by centerfielder Jonathan Reynoso. Edgard Clemente would follow with a walk. Then Luany Sanchez hit an rbi single scoring White, which would give the Broncos a 6-2 lead.

The Dillas would get 1 run in the top of the 6th inning. Danny Bravo led off with a single. With one out, Andrew Wong singled. Then Sam Mclain would walk to load the bases. Stephen Douglas would then pinch hit for the catcher Justin Wenger. Douglas would single scoring Bravo from 3rd. Broncos starter Gregorio Martinez was taken out of the game for David Wasylak. Wasylak would get Josh Ashton to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat. That would make the score 6-3 Broncos with the lead.

Martinez went 5 1/3 innings for the Broncos giving up 3 runs. He gave up 7 hits, walked 4, and struck out 5.

Wasylak would come out for the 9th inning as well. He got the first two men out in the inning before walking Gary Schneidmiller. Danny Bravo would then single putting runners on the corners. AJ Johnson would then single scoring Schneidmiller and moving Bravo to 2nd. Benny Cepeda would come in and get the first man he faced to ground out and end the threat. The Broncos took home the series finale by a score of 6-4.

The Broncos scored 6 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 error, while the Dillas scored 4 runs on 9 hits and committed 2 errors.

The Broncos improve to 20-19 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Monday night when they start a 6 game road trip in Edinburg to take on the Coyotes at 7:05.
