Williams Solid for Yard Goats

ERIE, PA - Hartford Yard Goats' pitcher Case Williams turned in another solid start, but Erie's pitching stymied Hartford's bats, as the Yard Goats fell to the Seawolves, 3-0, Friday night. It was the first game for both clubs, following baseball's four-day All-Star break. Williams pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking one. He allowed three runs on seven hits. Austin Kitchen followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, while Jacob Kostyshock hurled a scoreless eighth inning.

Southpaw Lael Lockhart notched the win, holding the Yard Goats to one hit over five innings, a second-inning single by Drew Romo. Kyle Datres had the other Hartford hit, a sixth inning single off reliever Layne Henderson. It was the third time this season the Yard Goats were shutout.

The Seawolves jumped to a 1-0. lead in the first inning on an RBI-single by Dillon Dingler, scoring Trei Cruz, who reached base on a leadoff walk. Erie tacked on a run in the third inning on a double off the leftfield wall by Andrew Navigato. Wenceel Perez slugged a home run down the right field line in the sixth to make it 3-0 Erie. Navigato followed with a single, before Williams settled down to get the next two hitters. He was then lifted, after serving up his seventh hit of the night.

Game two of the three-game series at Erie is 6:05 PM Saturday. LHP Joe Rock will start for Hartford, while RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long will be on the mound for the Seawolves. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday, July 18 (7:10 pm) to begin a six-game series against the New York Yankees AA affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.
