Will Johnson Called into Canadian National Team

Toronto FC midfielder Will Johnson has been named to Canadian Head Coach Benito Floro's 24-man roster for camp and a pair of international friendlies in preparation for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers in September 2016. Canada will take on Azerbaijan on Friday, June 3 at Stadion Rohrbach an der Lafnitz in Rohrbach an der Lafnitz, Austria. The second friendly match against Uzbekistan will take place on Tuesday, June 7 at Thermenstadion Bad Waltersdorf in Bad Waltersdorf, Austria.

Johnson, 29, has appeared and started in 12 matches, registering two goals and three assists for Toronto FC this season. Johnson has earned 41 caps and scored four goals for the Canadian national team. He earned his first senior team cap in a friendly match against Luxembourg on November 16, 2005. He scored his first goal on September 3, 2011 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Saint Lucia. Johnson's most recent cap came on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifier against Mexico. In addition, he has represented Canada at three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2009, 2011, 2013). Johnson was named the 2013 BMO Canadian Player of the Year, it marked the first time he won the award.
