Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

SAUGET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums(30-29) pitching staff combined to issue 12 walks, four wild pitches, and a hit by pitch as they drop tonight's game to the Gateway Grizzlies(26-36) by a final score of 8-5.

Gateway got on the board first, in the first, with an RBI single by Blake Brown. The Beach Bums took little time to respond in the top of the second. With one away, Luke Lowery hit a single to left and moved to second when it was booted by the left fielder. After Connor Oliver moved him to third on a ground out, Lowery scored on a Noah McGowan RBI single, tying the game at one.

With two outs in the third, Will Kengor and Steve Lohr hit back-to-back solo home runs, for Kengor his 10th, and Lohr's sixth. That gave the Bums a 3-1 lead but it was short-lived. In the bottom of the frame, both Brent Sakurai and Shane Mardirosian scored on wild pitches, then Cody Livesay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving Gateway a 4-3 lead. They added four more in the fourth on a bases loaded walk to Jeff Cardenas, and a three run double By Brennan Morgan.

In the seventh, the Beach Bums started to chip away at the deficit as Alec Olund and Issac Benard both walked with one out. Will Kengor drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to right field then Benard stole second to move into scoring position. Steve Lohr followed with an RBI single to pull Traverse City within three, but that is as close as they would come.

Andrew Click is dealt the loss in the spot start, lasting only into the third inning. He gave up four runs on three hits and five walks to drop his first decision of the year.
