Texas Wildcatters News Release
BEAUMONT, TX (August 30, 2005) - Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Tony MacAulay announced today the team has signed high-scoring forward Mike Bayrack to a contract for the 2005-06 season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bayrack, 26, spent last season with the UHL's Danbury Trashers, leading the club with 37 goals and adding 36 assists in 71 games. His stellar season also earned him two promotions to the American Hockey League, where he appeared in five games with Bridgeport and four games with Springfield. Bayrack's 37 goals were sixth-most in the United Hockey League last season and he twice earned Sher-Wood Player of the Week honors.
The prior season, Bayrack was a teammate of new Wildcatter Matt Turek in Greensboro. The 5-11, 205-pound center from Edmonton, Alberta led the Generals with 36 goals while adding 34 assists and 82 penalty minutes in 70 games. Bayrack's performance led to two AHL recalls during the 2003-04 season, where he tallied an assist in his only game with Norfolk and appeared in two playoff games and one regular season game with Bridgeport.
"It was a priority for our team to sign a high profile player who will lead our club in more than one department.," stated MacAulay. "Mike fills these intentions and brings many more positive qualities which will hopefully breed success for this year's team. I am excited to work with such a quality professional with a proven track record. Mike not only brings experience as a goal scorer, but he has an outstanding attitude and a low tolerance for mediocrity."
The new-look Wildcatters open their third season on October 21 at Florida, before returning to Ford Arena for the home opener on October 29 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Don't miss any hard-hitting Wildcatters hockey action with the purchase of 2005-06 season tickets.
