Cape Breton Eagles News Release

NOTES FROM THE GAME

- Two short handed goals in the first period helped pace the Moncton Wildcats to a 9-1 win over the Eagles on Saturday night at Centre 200. Alex Mercier, Miles Mueller, Yoan Loshing, Oscar Plandowski all notched three points for Moncton in the win.

- Luke McPhee, a former Wildcat acquired in the off-season by the Eagles, scored the lone Cape Breton goal, his first as an Eagle.

- Jakub Milota made his QMJHL debut in goal for the Eagles, stopping nine of 13 shots. Nicolas Ruccia also appeared in goal for the Eagles, stopping 11 of 16 shots. Jacob Steinman stopped 24 of 25 shots in the win for the Moncton.

It was an even played start to the game, with the shots reading 5-5 in the opening period before either team found the back of the net. Thomas Auger finished a pretty three way passing play to open the scoring for Moncton.

The Eagles had a chance to get on the board when Alex Mercier was sent off for two minutes in the opening period, but instead it was the Wildcats taking advantage with a pair of short handed markers from Vincent Collard & Mueller. Earlier in the second period, Gabe Smith cashed in in front of the net which sent Milota to the bench in favour of Ruccia.

Mueller welcomed Ruccia to the game with a similar goal, living the Wildcats a 5-0 lead before McPhee got the Eagles on the board. The Eagles created some chances on a late second period power play, but couldn't convert and Mercier added to the Moncton lead.

Mercier started the third period scoring for Moncton, and goals from Loshing & Collard finished the scoring. Milota re-entered the net following the ninth Wildcats goal and there was no further scoring on the night.
