Maxim Barbashev scored the first two goals of his QMJHL career as part of the Wildcats' 5-4 overtime loss to the Saint John Sea Dogs, Saturday at Avenir Centre.

Jacob Hudson contributed two goals and two assists.

Saint John led 1-0 after twenty minutes after finding the net late in the opening frame.

The visitors added to their lead with two power play goals 93 seconds apart in the opening three-and-a-half minutes of the second.

Barbashev's first goal came two minutes later when defenceman Tristan De Jong knifed a hard backhand shot from the left side that went off the glove of Sea Dogs' goalie Noah Patenaude. Barbashev chipped the rebound into the top of the net for his first QMJHL goal, cutting Moncton's deficit to 3-1.

But Saint John struck again a minute later to carry a 4-1 lead into the third.

Barbashev sparked Moncton's comeback with a power play goal eight minutes into the period, depositing a loose puck from in front of the crease into a wide-open net.

The Wildcats made it a one-goal game with eight minutes to go. Mathis Cloutier helped create a turnover on the left side of the Saint John zone and then found Hudson, who redirected the puck between Patenaude's legs.

The Moncton captain tied the game just 1:31 later on the power play, taking a pass in the left circle and beating Patenaude with a shot inside the right post.

The game-winner came on a Sea Dogs power play with 15.7 seconds remaining in overtime.

Goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish made 31 saves in the loss.
