Wildcats Release Leading Receiver

ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats arenafootball team announced today that they have placed last season's leading receiver Antwone Savage on re-assignment.

Savage led the Wildcats' receivers in receptions (87), receiving yards (1,070) and receiving touchdowns (22). He averaged 12 yards per catch and 71 receiving yards per game last season. Savage returned 23 kickoffs for 475 yards and two touchdowns and led the team with 1,549 all-purpose yards. As a defensive back, he also added 15 tackles and one fumble recovery. Savage had over 100 yards receiving in six straight games as the Wildcats offensive specialist.

Elliott Burkes, who totaled 37.5 tackles and two interceptions last season with the Wildcats, was also placed on re-assignment. The Wildcats also released FB/LB Brandon Chatman (Bethel), WR/DB Tavares Spillman (Stillman College) and WR/LB Tory Johnson (West Virginia).

The Wildcats will play an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, March 21 at the Albany James H. Gray Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the Albany James H. Gray Civic Center box office.

The two teams will play four quarters with a 10 minute running clock. The intrasquad scrimmage will give the Wildcats a chance to have some live tackling on defense and give the quarterbacks and wide receivers an opportunity to get a feel for timing with their throws and catches.

The Arena Football League is entering its 20th season and the South Georgia Wildcats are entering their second season in Albany, GA. The Wildcats will kickoff the 2006 season against Tennessee Valley Vipers on Saturday, April 8th at the Albany Civic Center.
