Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

The Last Pizza Bowl: Last year the Pizza Bowl not only was a dramatic game that was decided in the closing seconds, it foreshadowed how most of the season would go for the Steamwheelers. Quad City provided plenty of heart stopping action as six games were decided with 45 seconds or less left to play. Of those six games, four were decided with less than 15 seconds remaining and three of those four games came down to the final play (including the overtime game at Memphis).

Last Game vs. Green Bay: Quarterback Sam Clemons put the Steamwheelers on his shoulders as he threw two touchdown passes and added two more on the ground as the Steamwheelers hung on in an exciting 40-37 finish against the Blizzard on July 9. With Quad City up 40-24 after a four-yard touchdown run by Sam Clemons with 12:15 left to go in the fourth quarter, the Blizzard would make a run to cut the lead to three with 3:38 left to play. The Blizzard would get the ball back with 13 seconds remaining and 51-yard field goal attempt as time expired was no good, giving the Steamwheelers the victory.

Quad Cities a Tropical Destination?: While the weather isn't quite tropical outside yet, the Steamwheelers have tropical look this season. The Steamwheelers have four players that call the Hawaiian islands home: Kika Kaululaau (OL/DL) was born in Waianae and played at The University of Nevada - Reno, William Lobendahn (OL/DL) is a Honolulu native, but played for Virginia Union University, Matt Manumi (WR/DB) calls Honolulu home and played for the Univeristy of Hawaii and James Naehu (K) was born in Waipahu and played at Bethel College.

Recent Steamwheeler Transactions: 3-16-06 placed on recallable re-assignment was: OL/DL Aloma Alafe, OL/DL Evan Curry, FB/LB Thomas Marshall; DS Rod Green was placed on team suspension; OS Bo Smith was put on the refused to report list.

Time Change: Please note that the Quad City Steamwheelers have changed the start time of their regular season home games to 7:15 p.m.
