South Georgia Wildcats News Release
ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats are extremely pleased to announce that two members of the 2007 team have signed AFL contracts. QB D. Bryant has signed with the Georgia Force and WR James Robinson has signed with the Kansas City Brigade.
Quarterback D. Bryant set an af2 record for single season passing yards with 4,680 druing the 2007 season. He also became only the 3rd quarterback in league history to pass the 100 touchdown plateau by tossing 102 touchdowns on the season. Bryant was also named to the af2 All Conference Team.
"The numbers don't lie. D had an unbelievable season last year and he deserves the opportunity to compete at the next level," said Head Coach Derek Stingley.
WR James Robinson hauled in 77 passes last year while gaining 1,168 yards receiving. He also posted 27 touchdown receptions. Robinson's speed left most af2 defensive backs chasing him all season long.
"James has a skill that you really can't teach in his blazing speed. He is without a doubt one of the fastest players I've ever seen in this league," said Head Coach Derek Stingley.
D. and James are the first Wildcats to sign AFL contracts, but they probably won't be the last as a few more Wildcats are expected to ink AFL deals with the free agency period getting under way.
"As an organization, we couldn't be happier for these two guys. D had one of the best seasons in af2 history for a QB stat wise, but he also developed into a leader for us. He did it with his play rather than with his mouth. James is a very fast and talented young player that developed and matured for us as the season went on last year. Both of these guys have a very bright future in the AFL," said General Manager Darren McPhail.
