San Diego Wildcats News Release

San Diego, CA. The ABA San Diego Wildcats will play three games in four nights starting with a matchup south of the border against the Tijuana Dragons. The team has gotten off to a 5-2 start behind strong performances by Cardel Butler, better known as Ballaholic of the And1 Mix Tape Tour and Jamal Kendrick, formerly of the NBA's Seattle Supersonics.

The Wildcats obtained the playing rights to two new players. They are 6'8 forward/center Matt Hauser, formerly of Chico State and the German and Swiss pro leagues and Sheldon Pace, a 6'1 guard who most recently played for the Colorado 14ers in the NBDL.

Those, however, won't be the only new faces on the sidelines. Wildcat's GM Bill Tosheff will take over coaching duties for the next two games replacing head coach Ray Johnson. Tosheff brings three years of NBA experience to the Wildcats huddle. He was the NBA's first co-rookie of the year in 1951 and is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

"I'm happy to chip in," said Tosheff, President of the Pre-1965 Retired Players Association. "It's all part of the family atmosphere of our ball club. I brought in all of the players and I know their capabilities. I have a few old school tricks of the trade that I can pass on to them."

Tosheff and the Wildcats will be on the prowl again Saturday when they travel to LA to play the Hollywood Fame, a team owned in part by pop singer Nick Lachey. Head coach Ray Johnson is expected to rejoin the team Sunday when the Wildcats face the Big Valley Shockwave at Hoover High School in City Heights.
