Moncton Wildcats News Release

April 26th was a huge day for the future of hockey in Moncton - the Wildcats won the QMJHL Draft Lottery and will have the top pick for just the 3rd time in franchise history.

With six balls and a 28% chance of winning the lottery, the Moncton Wildcats landed the first overall pick of the 2023 QMJHL Entry Draft which will be held in Sherbrooke, on June 10th.

The Wildcats' hockey operations team have been scouting all season and had the opportunity to carefully evaluate prospects from this year's draft class during the final portion of the recent 2023 QMJHL Cup.

"We have the first overall pick and we want to pick the best player available," Wildcats GM Ritchie Thibeau said of phase one of the draft strategy regarding the top selection. "We see that as a player who is going to come to Moncton and contribute in our program for the next three to four years. We are really fortunate to have that pick and we're going to maximize that with the best player possible.

In addition to the #1 pick the Wildcats also hold 2 other 1st round picks - #13 overall & #18 overall.

"We have two other first-round picks and we want to look at the options available to us to improve our team for the present and the future." continued Thibeau. "Do we pick players to add to our organization or do we take those assets and maybe trade them for more experienced players? We'll look at all those possibilities and make the right decision for our team."

You can watch the Wildcats take the next step - 2023/2024 Season Seats and Flex Packs will be on sale soon.
