Moncton Wildcats News Release
The Wildcats wrapped up a busy long weekend with a 5-3 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads, Monday at Scotiabank Centre.
Alexis Daniel led the Moncton attack with a goal and an assist while Miles Müller and Brooklyn Kalmikov also scored. Etienne Morin contributed two assists.
Halifax scored the opening goal 26 seconds into the game and made it 2-0 five minutes later.
Müller cut the Wildcats' deficit in half with five minutes left in the period, intercepting a Mooseheads' pass in the slot and ripping a wrist shot past the glove of goalie Brady James. Moncton trailed 2-1 after twenty minutes.
There was no further scoring until two minutes into the third when the home side restored its two-goal lead.
But Daniel made it 3-2 less than two minutes later, deflecting a shot from the left point though the legs of James.
Moncton evened the score on a two-man advantage seven minutes into the period when Daniel sent a pass from the left side of the goal across the crease to Kalmikov, who snapped a shot past a sprawling James to make it 3-3.
Halifax regained the lead just 76 seconds later and added an insurance marker late in the third.
Goalie Jonathan Lemieux made 30 saves in the loss.
