Moncton Wildcats News Release

Alexis Daniel's goal with three minutes left in the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Wildcats defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs, 4-2, Saturday at Avenir Centre.

Jacob Hudson led the offence with a goal and two assists while Maxim Barbashev and Connor Richard also scored. Jacob Stewart chipped in with two assists.

Moncton is now 1-2 in the all-New Brunswick round-robin playoff tournament. Saint John's record falls to 1-2.

The Sea Dogs opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the game.

Barbashev tied it with under three minutes left in the period, depositing the rebound of a shot from the left point that hit Stewart in front of the net.

It was 1-1 after one period.

Richard gave Moncton its first lead with a power play goal more than eleven minutes into the second period.

The ex-Sea Dog took a pass on the left side of the Saint John zone, moved into the circle and ripped a wrist shot through the legs of Saint John goalie Zachary Emond.

Daniel's goal made it 3-1 late in the period, as he grabbed the rebound of a shot from the left point and sent it past Emond's blocker.

The visitors cut their deficit to 3-2 five minutes into the third period, but could not tie the game.

Hudson capped his three-point night with an empty-net goal with eight seconds remaining.

The Moncton captain won a puck battle on the left wing side of the Wildcats' zone and banked the puck off the boards and into the open cage.

Goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish earned the win with 22 saves.
