South Georgia Wildcats News Release
ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats and United Way of Southwest Georgia join teams to form United Way Wildcats "Cats for Kids" program. "Cats for Kids" is an incentive-based program to motivate kids to perform better in the classroom. This program will focus on three criteria, including school attendance, academic improvement, and positive behavior, that will be monitored and administered through the United Way in collaboration with the Dougherty County School System and a team of community volunteers.
"United Way improves people's lives by "advancing the common good" focusing on the impact we make in our communities through partnership and collaborations," said Dwayne Myles, President & CEO, United Way of Southwest Georgia.
One hundred students from each Dougherty County Middle School, including Albany Middle, Dougherty International, Merry Acres, Radium Springs, Robert Cross, and Southside, will be bused to a Wildcats game during the 2008 season. Each kid will receive a "Cats for Kids" t-shirt, an endzone ticket, and a hot dog, popcorn, and a drink. The kids will also be allowed early entrance into the James H. Gray Civic Center for a pre-game "meet and great" with the Wildcats coaches and players. All of the kids will sit together during the game in a United Way "Cats for Kids" section in the endzone.
"Our organization is so excited about the potential of this program," said Wildcats General Manager Darren McPhail. "We want to be more involved with the children and the schools in our area and there's no better way to do that then working with the United Way to produce and implement this incentive based program. We are confident the partnership between the Wildcats and the United Way will continue to grow each year as we invest in the lives of young people in our area."
The Albany Rotary Club and the Dougherty County Rotary Club have already come on board to sponsor one school for "Cats for Kids". If you're interested in sponsoring a school for our "Cats for Kids" program and need more information please contact Dwayne Myles at 229-883-6700 x28.
The Wildcats open up their 2008 home schedule against the Louisville Fire on Saturday, April 5th. Season tickets are available by contacting the box office at 229-435-2849.
