
Pioneers Assigned Former AFL Star "Coco" Blaylock

The 2007 American Conference Champion Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have been assigned veteran wide receiver Jamaine "Coco" Blaylock. Coco played seven seasons in the AFL before joining the af2's Rio Grande Dorado's last season.
"Coco is a true gentleman," said an impressed owner Cosmo DeNicola, "I really enjoyed meeting him. His quickness and great hands will make the arena rock every time he touches the ball."
A thrilling return man, the 5'10 194 pound Blaylock was ninth in the af2 in returns, taking 48 balls off the net for a 20.3 yard average and took a field goal to the house as well. Coco also remains one of the best wide receivers in the indoor game. Last season he grabbed 89 balls for 957 yards and 20 touchdowns.
"I've coached Coco in the past in the AFL," commented Head Coach Rich Ingold, "He's an electrifying return man that brings a great wealth of experience and leadership to our organization."
Blaylock started playing football indoors in 2000 with the Milwaukee Mustangs. In 2001 he was brought to the New Jersey Gladiators by Coach Ingold. He was named the team's MVP with 51 receptions for 713 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In 2004 he finished the season with 45 total kick returns for 904 yards with one touchdown and 82 receptions for 949 yards with 15 touchdowns while splitting the season between Columbus and Las Vegas.
In 16 games with the Las Vegas Gladiators in 2005 he caught 73 passes for 851 yards with 13 touchdowns, returned 45 kicks for 865 yards with one touchdown.
All total, in seven seasons in the AFL Coco Blaylock has recorded 258 catches for 3076 yards and 44 touchdowns and accumulated 147 returns for 2995 yards a career 20.4 average and 5 touchdowns.
The Pioneers were also assigned one year af2 veteran Barry Drakeford out of Kent State. Drakeford, a 5'10" 195 pound physical defensive back, played in just two games for the Fort Wayne Fusion last year. However, in those two games he was able to accumulate nine tackles (six solo) along with two pass break-ups and he had one interception he took 36 yards for a pick six.
