
Wild Things Round Out 2008 Coaching Staff

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the 2008 coaching staff Friday. Bob Bozzuto, Chris Carter, and Larry Wayman will assume positions for Field Manager Greg Jelks.
Bob Bozzuto, who is the athletic director at North Allegheny High School, returns for his third season with the Wild Things. He takes a step up to be Jelks' bench coach in 2008. Bozzuto managed in the Great Lakes League with the Murrysville Maulers in 2003 and 2004. He served as field manager of the Allegheny Athletics in 2005 when they were champions of the Erie Shores Wooden Summer Baseball League and a qualifier for the NABF Collegiate World Series.
Chris Carter returns to the Wild Things after playing for the team in 2005 and 2006 and acting as a player-coach in 2006. Carter batted .286 with 13 doubles, eight triples, 12 home runs, 73 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 2005 with the Wild Things. He returned in 2006 and batted .314 with nine doubles, six triples, eight home runs, and 48 RBI. Carter was a Frontier League All-Star in 2003 with Kalamazoo and 2006 with the Wild Things. He led the Frontier League in hitting in 2003 with a .364 batting average and finished seventh in batting in 2006. He is tied for second in triples (with Mike Arbinger) 21, 12th in hits (364), 13th in at-bats (1,144), 14th base on balls (155), 15th total bases (542), 16th in runs scored (198), and he ranks 19th in the Frontier League for games played (301).
Larry Wayman joins the Wild Things as pitching coach for 2008. An associate scout for the Atlanta Braves, Wayman has been head coach at Franklin Regional High School since 1993, earning two WPIAL titles. He was pitching coach for the Murrysville Maulers of the Great Lakes League in 2002 and 2003, and he was field manager for the Youngstown Express of the Great Lakes League in 2004. He also has international coaching experience as the pitching coach for the Belgium National Team from 1991- 1993.
"Bob, Chris, and Larry bring the perfect blend to compliment Greg Jelks as we enter the season," said Ross Vecchio, Wild Things' General Manager. "It is great to have Bob and Chris back in the fold as two experienced Frontier League battled tested veterans. Larry will bring a level of maturing and experience as our pitching coach."
The Wild Things will host Open House at CONSOL Energy Park on April 19th when individual tickets go on sale for the 2008 season. Washington's home opener is scheduled for May 24th when they'll face Traverse City.
