Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, Pa. - Last night's Hot Stove Banquet was a true celebration of baseball, with autographs and speeches from World Series champions. Approximately 240 people attended the 2011 Wild Things Hot Stove Banquet, presented by CONSOL Energy and benefiting The Washington Hospital Foundation, where they enjoyed stories from Jim Leyland, Kent Tekulve and Lanny Frattare as well as members of the Wild Things coaching staff last night.
The evening began with an autograph session with the featured speakers while guests listened to music from Emeritus Barbershop Quartet and browsed the silent and Chinese auctions. After dinner, the main event got rolling with speeches from the Wild Things coaches and a live auction. Then, Leyalnd, Tekulve and Frattare stole the show with their speeches and stories of life in Major League Baseball.
VIP guests also attended an after party with the speakers, where they were entertained by members of the Phoenix Jazz Project.
Attendees showed their generosity in the live, silent and Chinese auctions, which featured nearly 40 items including two limited-edition, framed Dino Guarino Steelers prints, a private meet-and-greet with former Pirates and current Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland, and a signed Troy Polamalu helmet.
Todd Marlin, managing director for the Wild Things, also introduced the new tenth season logo as well as artwork for the team's 9 + one campaign. He talked about the meaning of "9 + one," thanking all of the sponsors, season ticket holders, host families and fans--all the "ones" that have made Wild Things baseball possible for 10 years. More details about "9 + one" and the Wild Things tenth season will follow in the coming weeks.
The Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, will play their tenth season at CONSOL Energy Park in 2011. Season ticket, half season and mini plan packages are on sale now, and deposits for group tickets are being accepted.
