Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are pleased to announce that third baseman Daniel Cox will be returning to the CornBelters roster for 2011. Following a six-game road trip to begin their second season, the CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2011 campaign at the Corn Crib on May 27 at 7pm versus the Southern Illinois Miners (CEFCU Opening Night).
Cox joined the CornBelters in 2010 and finished the season with a .323 batting average, which was the highest among CornBelters players for the inaugural season and ranked him No. 2 in the Frontier League. Cox had 113 hits, 15 homeruns (No. 7 in Frontier League), 78 RBI (No. 3 in Frontier League), and scored 61 runs in the season, each the most of any CornBelter. In early July, Cox and RHP Tyler Lavigne were selected by the West Division to participate in the Frontier League All-Star game. He was then selected as a member of the Frontier league Post-Season All-Star Team this past off-season, making him the first ever CornBelter selected.
"Dan was one of the best players in the League last year and we are all excited to have Dan, our All Star third baseman, back for 2011. He was the most productive player in our lineup last year and is a great player for our organization and for our line up every game," said field manager, Hal Lanier.
