
Wild Things Fall 8-7 to Greys in 12-Inning Thriller

Washington, PA- The Wild Things fell in a 12-inning thriller against the Frontier Greys on Tuesday, August 11. The game was a nail-biter from the bottom of the ninth and on thanks to a Jimmy Yezzo homer to tie the game at five runs apiece. Chris Rice got the win for the Greys while Jonathan Kountis received the loss for the Wild Things.
The Greys took the early lead in the top of the first thanks to a three-run homer by Greys second baseman Brandon Tierney. They added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings as well to give them a 5-2 lead.
The Wild Things got on the board in the bottom of the second when David Popkins hit his 19th home run of the year, a solo shot, to make it a 3-1 game. Washington would crawl within two runs in the bottom of the sixth when John Fidanza hit an RBI single making it a 4-2 score. Yezzo's ninth-inning bomb was the spark that ignited the Wild Things late, carrying them into extra innings with the game knotted at 5-5.
After exchanging runs in the 11th inning, the Greys would plate two runs in the top of the 12th and the Wild Things would fall just short despite an RBI single from Danny Poma in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one.
