Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, took the field for the first time on the new surface against the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday night, playing four and a half innings of baseball before a large storm system caused a rain delay and eventual cancellation of the game. The score was tied 2-2 at the time the game was called.

The Wild Things scored their first run in the second inning when Emilio Ontiveros drove in Blake Ochoa with a fielder's choice. They added their second run in the fourth inning when Chris Sidick singled in second baseman Kevyn Feiner.

Both Lake Erie runs came in the fourth inning after Scott Houin and Andrew Davis lead off with a double and a triple respectively for the Crushers.

Starting pitcher Zach Groh pitched all five innings for the Wild Things, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and one strikeout.

The two teams will meet for a second exhibition game Friday at 6:35 p.m., with plans to play an 11-inning contest. Fans holding tickets to Thursday's rained out game may exchange their tickets for Friday or for a $5 voucher for any 2011 game.

The Wild Things will open their "9 + one" season presented by National Gold & Silver Refinery at CONSOL Energy Park on May 24 against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Season ticket, half-season and mini plan packages are on sale now, and deposits for group tickets are being accepted.
