The Washington Wild Things (7-3), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Evansville Otters (4-6) by a score of 6-3 Saturday at Bosse Field in Evansville, IN. Washington maintains sole possession of first place in the East Division.
Evansville struck first in the bottom of the first inning with one run, but Washington bounced back with three pairs of runs â in the second, fourth, and the sixth innings. In the seventh Evansville came back in the seventh with another run.
The drama began in the ninth when the Otters, behind by four runs, loaded the bases with no outs. It looked like they might take the game to extra innings. But it was not to happen.
Jim Popp, the Wild Things closer came in to close the game by allowing no hits and striking out one.
Brendon Davis, who started the game lasted six innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight.
The Wild Things face the Otters for the second in this three-game series Sunday when B.J. Borsa is scheduled to start for the Wild Things and Benjamin Foster will take the mound for the Otters.
The game will be broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
The Wild Things return home to Falconi Field on June 8 when they'll host the Florence Freedom at 7:05 p.m.
