Richmond Roosters News Release

Lorain, Ohio – The Roosters won 5-1 on Friday night in the final game played at P.C. Campana Park, despite getting all of the offense in the first two innings. Curt Moenter continued to pitch well for Richmond in his second start of the season. He threw 7 innings and gave up only 1 run to get the win. Moenter pitched five scoreless innings in his first start, but got no decision. Ty Kline got the start for Ohio Valley and struggled in the early innings. He pitched six innings and gave up all five of Richmond's runs to take the loss.

The Roosters got out to an early lead behind strong at-bats from the top of the lineup. Ty Herriott, Mike Reese, and Josh Hollingsworth all got singles to load the bases in the top of the first, and then got a single from Kevin White that eventually scored all three runners when the ball was bobbled by the left fielder. The Roosters took a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but were not satisfied. Two more runs scored in the second when Mike Reese got an infield single to score runners from both second and third and give Richmond a 5-0 lead.

Ohio Valley got their lone run in the bottom of the third when Curt Moenter missed the tag at first base on a throw from Herriott, allowing a runner to score from third. The run cut the lead to 5-1, but that was as close as the Redcoats would come. Fred Moses struck out two in an inning of relief and Grant Dorn pitched the final inning of the game and retired all three batters he faced to give the Roosters a 5-1 win.

Richmond is now 3-6 on the year and has won one game in each of the first three series they have played. They begin a three game set against Chillicothe on Saturday. Kris Regas will get his first start of the season against Chillicothe and John Martinez will start for the Paints.
